A good General Rule for Selecting the Right Size Plow is 1 Horsepower per Inch of Moldboard Example: 1 Bottom 12" = 12 HP 2 Bottom 12" = 24 HP Compact Tractor may Require more Horsepower than this General Rule.
Soil Type and Soil Conditions can also Effect the Amount of Horsepower Required for Plowing. Gumbo, Clay and Heavier Soil Types and Dry Soils will pull harder than damp of looser soils like loam. Also Previous tilled soils will pull easier than virgin sod and soils.
